Bolna is a beautiful romantic song from the 2016 Bollywood movie Kapoor & Sons, known for its soft melody and emotional depth. Sung by Arijit Singh and Asees Kaur, the track quickly became a favorite for its heartfelt lyrics and the way it captures the delicate feelings of love and longing. The song’s title, which means "Speak, my beloved," hints at the gentle plea for connection and openness between two people, which fits perfectly with the film’s story about complicated relationships and emotional honesty.

What makes Bolna special is how it combines traditional Indian music elements with modern sounds, giving it a timeless vibe that appeals to listeners across generations. The music arrangement uses simple yet rich chords and soft instrumentation that support the vocals without overpowering them. The song’s popularity was boosted not only by its emotional impact but also by its music video featuring the film’s stars, adding a visual layer to the story of love and vulnerability that the lyrics express.

Bolna – Guitar Lesson

In this lesson, Steve Luciano takes you through the gentle guitar parts that shape Bolna’s soothing atmosphere. The song is played in the key of F major, which is bright and warm, setting the perfect mood for a romantic ballad. It starts with a delicate arpeggio pattern on the F major and G major chords, where the notes of each chord are played one by one rather than strummed all at once. This picking style gives the song its soft, flowing feel right from the beginning.

The chord progression is straightforward but rich, moving through chords like F, Bb, Dm7, Am7, and Gm7. These chords include some minor sevenths and major sevenths, which add a smooth, jazzy flavor to the harmony without making it complicated. Steve breaks down how to play each chord cleanly and how to move between them smoothly, which is key to keeping the song’s gentle and emotional tone intact.

Steve also explains some subtle techniques like fingerpicking and how to emphasize certain notes in the arpeggio to bring out the melody within the chords. This approach helps players understand how to make a simple chord progression sound expressive and full of feeling. By following Steve’s step-by-step guide, guitarists can learn to capture the song’s soft dynamics and emotional nuances, making Bolna a great practice piece for anyone looking to improve fingerstyle playing and chord transitions.

The song is mostly in the key of C major, but by the genius of Pritam, one of the most prominent music directors of the Bollywood music industry, the song also goes to the G major. The D major and the F major chords, which straddle the two keys, create a unique sound for the song.

The song intro has a swinging rhythm pattern and follows minor 7th and suspended chords, underlying the uncertain, ambiguous and suspenseful nature of the journey of life. The guitar solo is based on the A minor pentatonic scale and features string bending and controlled vibrato techniques, which are very good for practicing those techniques for a beginner.

The acoustic and electric overdubbed motifs play between the verses and chorus, again using techniques like palm-muted picking that the tutor refers to as ‘percolated’ effect on the electric guitar and a major 7th arpeggio on the acoustic guitar.

In the section on improvisation, the tutor demonstrates some of the advanced techniques like pinch harmonics and a whammy bar dive and legato runs. These techniques played over the A minor pentatonic scale up and down the neck make it sound like a classic rock guitar solo.

Tamanna – Introduction

Welcome to the guitar lesson on a timeless Punjabi classic song loved and celebrated all over India. Tammana by Prabh Gill is a song about falling in love, where the singer is expressing his desires. This song has been plucking the heartstrings of its listeners since 2012, and has collected more than 8M views on YouTube since, with comments like – “I love this song a lot, I have also sent it to my girlfriend” and “I am in love with this song.....with every word… {heart emoji}”.

The guitar lesson on Tammana is brought by Mike Walker, wo explains all the guitar parts of the song, section by section. The initial sections talk about the chords and rhythm patterns of the song and in the sections that follow, the instructor goes on to explain the various guitar parts –chord voicings, solos, and fills that the song consists of.

The song is in the key of Bb Major, which means the way to play the chords of the song using standard shapes is by using a capo on the 1st fret. The chords of the song follow a minor key for the most part, and only in the chorus do they go to a more major sound. The tutor explains how to capture this movement well with the strumming pattern – D - UDUD - UDUD - DU (D is a downward strum and U is an upward strum.)

The special thing about this song is that it does not have drums in it, which means that all percussive effects are produced by the guitars and the bass. This leaves room for a lot of melodic motifs to fill the space left empty by the absence of drums. Hence, the song has multiple solos and melodic lines that sound beautiful.

Another special thing about this song is that it features a sitar solo near the end of the track, which, although it sounds difficult to play because of the signature picking technique, the instructor shows the way to play the sitar solo on a guitar in an easy way.

The acoustic and Sufi-inspired arrangement, that beings together Indian classical elements with contemporary.

Channa Mereya Guitar Lesson

Steve Luciano trachea you how to play the Channa Mereya melody while breaking down the song’s delicate guitar work. The track is in the key of A minor. The verse melody begins with a gentle descent from F to D, establishing the melancholic mood. The pre-chorus builds tension by emphasizing the higher notes (C and D), while the chorus releases this tension with its wider intervallic leaps. The melody's beauty lies in its subtle variations, the singer in the song slightly alters certain phrases when they repeat.

To play this on guitar, use the middle position of the neck (5th to 8th frets). The main phrases can be played on the B and high E strings, with some notes extending to the G string. Focus on clean hammer-ons and pull-offs between adjacent notes, and use vibrato on sustained notes to match Arijit's vocal style.

For the more expressive sections, incorporate slides between notes and careful bending (especially the microtonal bends characteristic of Indian music). The bridge section features the melody's highest notes - practice shifting positions smoothly to reach these. Remember to breathe between phrases like a singer would.

The melody stands out for its beautiful simplicity and emotional power. The tune stays with listeners long after the song ends, making it one of Arijit Singh's most memorable performances. This lesson focuses specifically on playing the vocal melody on guitar.
