Purani Jeans Guitar Lesson

Purani Jeans guitar lesson is taught by our beloved expert, Mike Walker, who explains all the different sections of the song in a section-by-section manner –from the intro that talks about the chords and different voicings of those chords, to the rhythms and solos of the song. The song is in Eb standard tuning and in the key of D major, which is a common tuning for the classic rock sound.

The intro of the song features a rhythmic riff that is based on the mixolydian scale, a major scale with the flattened seventh degree, which gives the riff a jazzy sound. The strumming and legato notes of the riff resemble those from songs like ‘Summer of '69’ and ‘Hey Joe’.

The song mostly features power chords, i.e. chords without the third, that are played on a distorted electric guitar and consist of standard shapes. The majority of the strumming is palm muted, which gives the song that rock-metal vibe. There are also a number of small overdubbed motifs that play over the rhythm guitar that embellish the progression.

Purani jeans also features a guitar solo that is based on the mixolydian scale, featuring jazz and bluesy licks and lines with minor 7th and half diminished chord arpeggios. This solo is a great example of how to mix different theory concepts in your soloing. The tutor here explains all the parts of the solo note for note.

Muskurane Ki Wajah - Introduction

Welcome to the guitar lesson on one of the most famous romantic ballads from the previous decade, Muskurane by Arijit Singh. The song is from the movie ‘Citylights’, which is highly acclaimed for showing the cruelty of a modern city commonly referred to as the city of dreams. The song received the Song of the Year Award at the Mirchi Music Awards and has amassed more than 60 million views on YouTube since its release in 2014.

Muskurane Ki Wajah translates to ‘reason for a smile’, which is a romantic expression towards a beloved. The plot of the film revolves around a couple who migrate to a Tier 1 city in search of a livelihood, but have to face deceit from the city. Through the song, the character is conveying to his beloved that “you are the reason for my smile, in the times when life is tough”.

Muskurane Ki Wajah Guitar Lesson

Muskurane guitar lesson is taught by our expert, J.J. , who explains all the different sections of the song in a section-by-section manner –from the intro that talks about the chords and different voicings of those chords, to the rhythms and solos of the song. The song is in Eb standard tuning and in the key of D major, which is a common tuning for the classic rock sound.

To play the song in the original key and with standard chord shapes, a capo is needed on the 2nd fret. Advanced players can move to barred versions of the chords, should they not feel comfortable with the capo. The strumming of the song is unique in the sense that although the song can be played using the standard eight-note strumming, the strumming used here is that of the fifth-note pattern. This gives the song a breathing-like movement, where the empty three strums of a bar rest.

The song features a unique cadence that goes from an E major to an A minor, which creates a beautiful tension and release in the song, and even more unique is the fact that on the chord that brings the tension, the song lyrics also talk about discomfort, both of which later resolves to a minor chord and a comfortable meaning.

Muskurane lyrics, along with the tabs, are also available beside the video lesson that you can refer to while learning the song.

Dil Kya Mehfil Hai is a timeless romantic song from the 1977 Bollywood film Hum Kisise Kum Naheen, starring Rishi Kapoor and Kaajal Kiran. Sung by the legendary Kishore Kumar, with music composed by R.D. Burman and lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri, the song beautifully captures the emotions of love and longing. The melody blends Indian classical influences with Western orchestration, creating a rich, nostalgic sound that remains beloved decades later.

The song’s poetic lyrics compare the heart to a gathering (mehfil) of emotions, where love is both a celebration and a sorrow. Kishore Kumar’s expressive vocals, combined with Burman’s intricate arrangements featuring strings, piano, and light percussion, give the track its dreamy, melancholic charm. Even today, "Dil Kya Mehfil Hai" is remembered as one of Kishore Kumar’s finest performances and a highlight of R.D. Burman’s illustrious career.

Dil Kya Mehfil Hai Guitar Lesson

Taught by Mike Walker, this lesson breaks down how to play "Dil Kya Mehfil Hai" on guitar. The song is set at 120 BPM and uses a series of rich chords: G#, F#, C#, B, and D#. These chords create a lush, emotional progression that drives the song’s nostalgic feel. The strumming pattern is smooth and flowing, matching the song’s romantic mood.

The verse follows a G# - F# - C# - B pattern, with each chord held for two beats. The chorus introduces D# for a brighter resolution. The key is to let the chords ring out, using gentle downstrokes with occasional upstrokes to keep the rhythm natural. The song’s bridge adds variation with a C# - B - G# - F# sequence, creating tension before returning to the main progression.

For the melody, the song primarily uses the G# major scale (G#-A#-C-C#-D#-F-G), with occasional slides and light vibrato to mimic Kishore Kumar’s vocal phrasing. The lead guitar parts should focus on smooth, sustained notes, emphasizing the emotional highs and lows of the tune.

Beginners should start by mastering the chord shapes, especially the G# and D# barre chords, which may be challenging at first. Intermediate players can work on the strumming dynamics, playing softly in verses and with more intensity in the chorus. Advanced players can explore fingerstyle arpeggios to replicate the song’s orchestral texture.

Sanam Teri Kasam is one of those songs that just sits with you long after it ends. From the 2016 film of the same name, the song became an instant favorite for people who love intense, emotional love stories. Composed by Himesh Reshammiya and sung by Ankit Tiwari and Palak Muchhal, the track brings out themes of longing, heartbreak, and unshaken devotion. It fits perfectly into the narrative of the film, which is a modern tragic romance.

What really makes Sanam Teri Kasam stand out is its sincerity. There’s nothing flashy or over-produced about it, it’s just pure emotion, pouring through both the music and the lyrics. Sameer Anjaan’s writing feels personal and poetic, and the vocals carry it all with a kind of soft heartbreak. The song was released at a time when Bollywood was leaning heavily into dance beats and remixes, so a raw, classic-style ballad like this one really struck a chord with audiences.

Sanam Teri Kasam – Guitar Lesson

Instructor Steve Luciano teaches this easy version of Sanam Teri Kasam with a focus on making it playable and soulful at the same time. You’ll need to place a capo on the 3rd fret for this lesson, which helps match the key of the original while keeping the chords nice and simple. The main chords you’ll use here are Am, C, G, E7, Em, and F. These are all standard open chords, and Steve breaks them down one at a time, pointing out smooth finger transitions and how to let the emotions of the song come through even if you’re just strumming.

The strumming pattern Steve recommends is soft and flowing, following the melody more than a strict beat. It’s the kind of pattern that lets you slow down when the lyrics are heavy and pick up just a bit when the song starts to lift. He also gives guidance on dynamics—when to let the chords ring out and when to dampen them for a more intimate feel. The trick to this song isn’t in speed or flash, but in holding back just enough to let the emotion carry the performance.

Steve also touches on how to approach the E7 and F chords, which might trip up beginners. For E7, he shows how it adds a slight emotional tension before resolving back to Am, and for F, he offers a few fingering options, barre and simplified so you can pick what works for your current level.

One of the best parts of this lesson is how Steve keeps the focus on expression. This is a great song to work on if you want to build emotional connection through your playing, without needing advanced theory.
