Welcome to the guitar lesson on a song that carries both emotional weight and spiritual depth Bulleya by Papon from the 2016 Bollywood film Sultan. Composed by the iconic duo Vishal-Shekhar with lyrics by Irshad Kamil, the song has a deep Sufi influence that speaks about longing, surrender, and redemption. Sung soulfully by Papon, the track marks a moment of emotional transformation in the film. It plays when the main character, Sultan, is trying to make peace with his past and win back the love of his life.

The song borrows its name and spirit from the famous Sufi poet Bulleh Shah. One of the standout lines in the song, “Tu bole toh ban jau main Bulleh Shah saudayi” (If you say so, I shall become Bulleh Shah’s devotee), ties the narrative to the idea of surrendering one’s ego in the face of love and higher truth. Over the years, this track has remained close to the hearts of listeners not just for its melody, but for the way it captures what it feels like to yearn, for love, for peace, and for redemption.

Bulleya Guitar Lesson

The lesson on Bulleya is taught by our expert Steve Luciano, who walks through all parts of the song with great detail and clarity. The song is in the key of A major and moves between some very expressive chords that bring out the emotional flavor of the track. You’ll encounter chords like A/E, C# minor, B major, Emaj7, Emaj9#4, and C#m7 and while they might sound complicated, Steve breaks them down in a way that even early intermediate players can grasp. One chord that stands out is Emaj9#4, which adds a haunting character to the progression. It's a variation of the regular major chord but with extra notes that add color the #4 gives it a dreamlike sound.

The track also uses what’s called a slash chord like E/G# - which simply means you're playing an E major chord but starting the bass note from G#. This kind of movement helps the progression feel more connected and smooth, especially when moving between sections of the song. Steve explains how to position your fingers for these chords and offers alternate voicings if you find the originals too challenging.

One of the unique aspects of this lesson is how Steve connects the emotional flow of the song to the playing technique. It’s not just about hitting the right chords it’s about how you play them. The strumming is soft and steady, with emphasis on dynamics to match the emotional rise and fall of the lyrics. The lesson ends with a complete demonstration of the song, making it easy for you to follow along, section by section, until you can play it smoothly from start to finish.

Welcome to the guitar lesson on Samjhawan, a heartfelt romantic ballad from the 2014 Bollywood film Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. The film stars Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt, and this song quickly became one of its most memorable tracks. Samjhawan is actually a reimagined version of Main Tenu Samjhawan Ki, a soulful Punjabi song originally composed by Jawad Ahmad and sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan in 2010. The Bollywood version was recreated by Sharib–Toshi, with lyrics by Ahmad Anees and Kumaar, and sung by two of India’s finest voices, Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal. Their emotional delivery gives the song a deep sense of longing and love that really connects with listeners.

This song’s popularity is reflected in the awards it won, including the GiMA Award for Best Duet in 2015. There was also a more stripped-down unplugged version sung by Alia Bhatt herself, which offered a softer, more intimate take. The song talks about understanding and comforting a loved one, with lyrics that express vulnerability and devotion. Its gentle melody and heartfelt words have helped Samjhawan become a beloved classic in modern Indian music.

Samjhawan Guitar Lesson

In this lesson, instructor J J Patishall guides you through the chords and rhythm of Samjhawan in a way that’s easy to follow, even if you’re not a seasoned player. The song is played mostly using open chords like Asus2, Dsus2, F#m, Bm, and E, which gives it that smooth and mellow sound. These suspended chords, especially the Asus2 and Dsus2, add a gentle tension that feels emotional but not complicated. J J explains how to finger these chords carefully to keep the song’s soft vibe intact.

One of the key points J J focuses on is how to move between these chords smoothly. He breaks down the transitions slowly so you don’t get stuck on tricky shapes like F#m, which can feel tough at first because it’s usually a barre chord. But with his tips, you’ll find a comfortable way to play it without straining your hand. The lesson includes how to hold Asus2 and Dsus2 so that the ringing open strings create a warm, full sound that fills the space nicely.

The strumming pattern is simple yet expressive, with a mix of down and up strokes that flow naturally with the song’s rhythm. J J also shows a subtle picking pattern for those who want to bring out the melody within the chords more clearly. This fingerpicking option works well if you want to capture the intimate feeling of the unplugged version. Throughout the lesson, J J highlights how small changes in timing and emphasis can really shape the mood, helping you play Samjhawan with the same tenderness that makes the original so special.

FAQs

Q. Is Samjhawan suitable for beginner guitar players?

Yes, especially since many chords are open or suspended chords. J J breaks down the harder chords to make them accessible.

Q. Can I play the unplugged version on guitar?

July Matham - Introduction

July Matham is a beloved Tamil song from the 1993 film Pudhiya Mugam, composed by A.R. Rahman in his early career. The song features the legendary voices of S.P. Balasubrahmanyam and Annupamaa, with lyrics by Vairamuthu. It is set in Pilu raga, which gives it a sweet yet melancholic feel. The film tells the story of an assassin who transforms into a hero, and this song plays during a key emotional moment.

The melody flows gently, with soft orchestration and expressive vocals. Rahman’s use of harmonies and subtle rhythm changes makes the song stand out. Even today, it remains a favorite among fans of 90s Tamil music because of its simple yet deep emotional appeal. The way the vocals glide through the notes makes it perfect for guitar adaptation.

July Matham Guitar Lesson

Taught by Mike Walker, this lesson covers the song’s structure in D minor, shifting to D major in some sections. The harmonic minor scale (D-E-F-G-A-Bb-C#) is used for the sorrowful parts, while the major scale brightens the mood. The chords follow a cycle of Dm - Bb - F - C, with occasional passing chords like Gm and A7 for tension.

The strumming pattern is relaxed, matching the 6/8 rhythm. Use downstrokes on beats 1 and 4, with light upstrokes in between. The pre-chorus has arpeggiated chords, where you pluck individual notes instead of strumming. The chorus returns to fuller strums, emphasizing the emotional highs.

For the melody, focus on the D minor pentatonic scale (D-F-G-A-C). The vocal line moves smoothly, often sliding between notes. On guitar, try bending into some notes for expression, like bending the F (1st fret, high E string) slightly upwards. The bridge shifts to D major, changing the mood completely before returning to the minor key.

Beginners should practice the chord transitions first, especially Dm to Bb. Intermediate players can work on the arpeggiated sections, ensuring each note rings clearly. Advanced players can experiment with subtle vibrato and slides to mimic the vocal phrasing.

FAQs

Q. How to play the arpeggios smoothly?

Pluck the strings one by one in order and keep your fingers close to the frets. Avoid moving your arm and try maintaining a rhythm with moving only your wrists.

Q. Why does the song switch between minor and major?

The minor scale brings sadness, while the major parts add hope, matching the song’s emotional journey.

Q. Can I use a pick for this song?

Yes, you can use a pick for the picking patterns but the songs’ authentic feel comes only when fingerpicking is involved.

Q. What effects should I use?

A little reverb and delay help recreate the original’s dreamy sound.

Sanam Teri Kasam is one of those songs that just sits with you long after it ends. From the 2016 film of the same name, the song became an instant favorite for people who love intense, emotional love stories. Composed by Himesh Reshammiya and sung by Ankit Tiwari and Palak Muchhal, the track brings out themes of longing, heartbreak, and unshaken devotion. It fits perfectly into the narrative of the film, which is a modern tragic romance.

What really makes Sanam Teri Kasam stand out is its sincerity. There’s nothing flashy or over-produced about it, it’s just pure emotion, pouring through both the music and the lyrics. Sameer Anjaan’s writing feels personal and poetic, and the vocals carry it all with a kind of soft heartbreak. The song was released at a time when Bollywood was leaning heavily into dance beats and remixes, so a raw, classic-style ballad like this one really struck a chord with audiences.

Sanam Teri Kasam – Guitar Lesson

Instructor Steve Luciano teaches this easy version of Sanam Teri Kasam with a focus on making it playable and soulful at the same time. You’ll need to place a capo on the 3rd fret for this lesson, which helps match the key of the original while keeping the chords nice and simple. The main chords you’ll use here are Am, C, G, E7, Em, and F. These are all standard open chords, and Steve breaks them down one at a time, pointing out smooth finger transitions and how to let the emotions of the song come through even if you’re just strumming.

The strumming pattern Steve recommends is soft and flowing, following the melody more than a strict beat. It’s the kind of pattern that lets you slow down when the lyrics are heavy and pick up just a bit when the song starts to lift. He also gives guidance on dynamics—when to let the chords ring out and when to dampen them for a more intimate feel. The trick to this song isn’t in speed or flash, but in holding back just enough to let the emotion carry the performance.

Steve also touches on how to approach the E7 and F chords, which might trip up beginners. For E7, he shows how it adds a slight emotional tension before resolving back to Am, and for F, he offers a few fingering options, barre and simplified so you can pick what works for your current level.

One of the best parts of this lesson is how Steve keeps the focus on expression. This is a great song to work on if you want to build emotional connection through your playing, without needing advanced theory.

FAQs

Q. Is this version suitable for beginners?

Yes! The chords are standard open chords, and Steve’s pacing is slow and clear enough for new players to follow along easily.

Q. Do I need to use a capo for this song?

Using a capo on the 3rd fret helps match the pitch of the original and makes the chord shapes easier.

ht fingerpicking for a softer tone.

Tu Hai is a deeply spiritual and romantic song from the 2016 historical film Mohenjo Daro, starring Hrithik Roshan and Pooja Hegde. Composed by A.R. Rahman, with lyrics by Javed Akhtar, the track blends devotion and love in a way that feels timeless. Sung by Rahman himself along with Sanah Moidutty, the song carries a meditative quality, as if it’s a prayer set to music. The gentle instrumentation soft flutes, ambient strings, and subtle percussion—creates a dreamy atmosphere that transports listeners to the ancient world of the film.

The lyrics speak of love as something divine, almost sacred, fitting perfectly with the film’s themes of destiny and connection. Rahman’s soft, breathy vocals and Moidutty’s delicate harmonies make the song feel intimate yet grand. While Mohenjo Daro had mixed reviews, the soundtrack stood out, and "Tu Hai" remains one of Rahman’s most cherished compositions for its emotional depth and simplicity.

Tu Hai-Guitar Lesson

Taught by Steve Luciano, this lesson breaks down how to play Tu Hai on guitar. The song uses a beautiful chord progression: C, Am7, Fmaj6,9, which gives it a warm, open sound. The Fmaj6,9 chord (played as xx3210) adds a jazzy, dreamy quality that fits the song’s spiritual mood. The strumming is soft and flowing, matching the gentle rhythm of the original track.

The verse follows a C - Am7 - Fmaj6,9 - C pattern, with each chord held for two bars. The strumming should be light—mostly downstrokes with a relaxed feel, letting the notes ring. The chorus introduces slight variations, with the Am7 sometimes replaced by G/B for a smoother transition. The key is to keep the playing fluid and unhurried, as the song moves at a slow, reflective pace.

For the melody, the song mostly uses the C major scale (C-D-E-F-G-A-B), with occasional slides and light vibrato to add expression. The guitar can mimic the vocal lines by playing simple, sustained notes with careful phrasing. The Fmaj6,9 chord is essential—it gives the song its unique, floating quality, so practice switching into it smoothly from Am7.

Beginners should focus on the chord shapes and slow strumming first. Intermediate players can work on adding arpeggios (plucking individual strings) to match the song’s delicate feel. Advanced players can experiment with fingerstyle patterns to bring out the melody within the chords.

FAQs

Q. How do I play the Fmaj6,9 chord?

Fret the 3rd fret on the D string, 2nd fret on the G string, and 1st fret on the B string, leaving the high E open.

Q. What’s the best strumming pattern?

Use slow, gentle downstrokes with occasional upstrokes—let the chords breathe.

Q. Can I simplify the Fmaj6,9 chord?

Yes, you can play a regular F major (133211) if needed, but the 6,9 adds the song’s signature sound.

Q. How do I make it sound more like the original?

Add light reverb and play with a soft touch, avoid heavy strumming.

Welcome to the guitar lesson on a song that is an anthem for the spirit of youth and also for road trips. Phir Se Ud Chala is a track from the Rockstar album, composed by A. R. Rahman, voiced by Mohit Chauhan, a singer whose songs most indians have grown up listening to. The song has received over 150 million views on YouTube and has been playing in every youngster's earphones ever since.

It is a song about dreams and the freedom to take flight in pursuit of those dreams. The lyrics ‘phir se ud chala’ means, I fly again. The song follows on from the core story of the film, which is about a rebel artist hustling to make it big, while exploring themes of existentialism, love, discovery and the perils of life.

Phir Se Ud Chala Guitar Lesson

The lesson on Phir Se Ud Chala is done by one of our beloved experts, Mike Walker. The lesson is quite straightforward and a short one. It is divided into sections and contains all the information needed to play the song on an acoustic guitar. The initial sections talk about the chords and rhythm of the song, along with the strumming pattern. The latter sections talk about some of the articulate motifs in the song, along with a section on how to improvise on the track.

A special thing about this song is that it features some slash chords –chords that have a different bass note than the root note. For instance, there’s a Dsus2/G chord that is played after the 2nd verse that sounds dreamy and uplifting and fits the overall story of the song.

The bit that makes this song easy to play is that there is a lack of frequent chord changes. The majority of the song can be played on a G major chord using a simple strumming pattern that goes like D - D U D U D - (D is a downward strum and U is an upward strum.)

The best part about the lesson is the section that talks about improvising on the track. The instructor demonstrates how to use the B major scale and the G# minor pentatonic scale for improv ideas. This improv section teaches one to unlock the fretboard horizontally.
